Happy Spring Break! A friendly reminder we do not have school Monday, March 24-Friday, March 28th.

Literacy

This week in Literacy we are continuing to explore breaking apart words. For example, the word "elephant" el-e-phant is 3 syllables. We are practing no-excuse words with finding them in books and magazines, rolling no-excuse words dice, and fishing for no-excuse words. (like, come, the, and) We continue to listen to books and read on My On and Literacy Aps on the ipad. We are learning how to read the pictures, read the words, and retell the stories with our just-right-books. Such radiant readers!! :)

Math

This week in Math we are continung to discover more on the computer based Math Program, ST Math. We are also learning about doubles. 6+6=12, 8+8=16. Then, we worked on doubles plus one. 6+6=12 and 6+7=13. In Math Stations we practice double also, find doubles in pictures, FAST Math, and Math APs on the ipad. One Math Ap is Sushi Monster where we practice adding numbers.

Science

Science has been very exciting! As Scientist, we observed different types of seeds. We predicted what the 5 types of seeds were. Our Mystery Seed was an avacado, what a large seed! We also went on an outside exploration to observe different plants, seeds, and sticks. We drew pictures and labled what we observed.

Math: We are working on adding doubles, counting beyond 10, seeing how shapes go within shapes. For example, we can make a hexagon from two rhombuses or 6 triangles. We are continuing to do ST Math, and FAST math.

Writing: We wrote what would we do if The Cat and The Hat came to visit. We ate Dr. Seuss Peppermints to help our brains.

Reading: In Reading we are continuing Literacy Stations. The Literacy Stations include building words on the ipad and reading books, MyOn, and independent books reading. We have read Horton Hears a Who and watched the movie. Then we compared and contrasted the two.

Science: We are continuing the Plant and Animal Unit. We are looking at animals' habitats We have observed non-living and living plants and discussed the differences. We then labeled plants, stem, root, flowers, leaf. We learned and discovered plants need water, soil, space, and sun to live.

Uh-oh! The Leprechaun came to visit us!
